The essay proposes to inquire the difficulties of italian women approaching the european project, through examining the relation that Europe has built up with the main three italian women associations existing in the post war period: the UDI for the social communist side, the CIF for the catholic one and the CNDI for the democratic and liberal side. The period we consider is that starting from the post war reconstruction and ending up with 1981. After having checked different evolutions we noticed the power of the approach when not dogmatically tied to political and religious perspectives which allowed to think of Europe as a political space toward which stand a claiming or a sharing attitude to elaborate the profile of a women citizenship.
