City and mountain in european Bergfilm between two world war

Starting from the description of the very first relationships between movies and mountain, this contribute focuses on the fortune met during the 1930s by the so called Bergfilm, a particolar genre very common in all Alpine countries. The author describes the characters of this movie genre, paying particolar attention to the swiss experience where it had a very big success. The most recurrent themes were the conflict among city and mountain and the defence of the most traditional values of the Alpine culture. In the Bergfilm the mountain is seen both as a scenary but also as a real protagonist, which gives rules to be respected and which plays the role of a judge called to help the innocent and to condemn the guilty.
